A Brief Heading
My Name is Charles Tongue
As someone who has been collaborating with artists and their artworks for a long time, I offer a unique range of perspectives to help you plan and grow your career, your legacy, and what happens to your art once you are long gone.
My passion for the arts began at a young age, spending a lot of time in galleries as the child of an art dealer. This interest continued at university, where I studied Art History, Art Theory, and Psychology. Following university, I worked my way up to owning my own commercial art gallery, collaborating with a broad stable of artists and learning how commercial galleries work from the inside.
I have been working towards the Brother Theo consultancy for over twenty years
My experience in the international art world included working in art fairs, public art symposia, and managing yet another art gallery through an exhibition schedule and commercial projects.
I then moved on from art galleries into museum collection management, working with collection management software across more than 200 museum collections across the English-speaking world. This gave me a new insight into the lives of artworks and what happens to them over longer periods of time and once they leave artists’ studios.
After collection management, I worked in art valuations at an auction house, requiring consideration of provenance, authenticity, and some detective skills to verify facts and find credible sources. The focus on fine art expanded to include a range of different media, including collectables.
Each of these phases of professional growth equipped me with yet another lens and a different way to consider the whole-of-the-lifespan of an artwork out in the world.
With the benefit of this experience, I offer a range of perspectives to help you plan and grow your career, your legacy, and what happens to your art once you are long gone. Thank you for visiting my website, and I look forward to collaborating with you!
